BLOOD TIES

The television program Blood Ties on Lifetime, starring Christina Cox and Kyle Schmid, is an interesting program to say the least. It also however, shows a wonderful portrayal of a non standard female gender role and a standard male gender role. Christina's character displays the non standard female gender role by being an independent woman who runs her own private investigatons agency. She solves crimes, can take care of herself, and kicks butt whenever necessary.  Now Kyle's character on the other hand, depicts the male standard gender role pretty well. He is suave, cool, strong, and can protect his partner if need be, from everyday or supernatural harm. He is seen as a typical male because he can manipulate women to get what he wants, and only sees them as something lower than him, except for his partner played by Christina. Through out most of the program this is how these two characters are portrayed. Although there are instances when the gender roles switch and she is seen in a typical female gender role and he is seen in a non standard male gender role. Examples of this are wen she is solving a crime she always happens to occasionaly need help from her friendly vampire played by Kyle Schmid. Showing that she is not completely strong all the time and that she sometimes needs a man to come to her rescue. His chracter shows a non standard male gender role by sometimes needing comfort from a woman or just someone to listen, and shows that he is not stong all the time. This program shows a good look at how the gender roles can be switched off at any time through out the male and female characters, and is also a pretty good show to watch. I recommend that if you are in to the supernatural and love a little bit of drama, with a dash of excitement, this is the show for you. Blood Ties airs on Sundays at 9:00pm Central time or 10:00 Eastern Standard time on the Lifetime Channel. CHECK THIS SHOW OUT!
